Salvation

Salvation

The Gospel, or Good News in the Bible declares Jesus Christ as the Son of God, who came in the flesh as the God-man, lived a sinless life, and died and shed his blood on the cross as the once-for-all sacrifice for humanity's sin debt. He was buried and rose again, thus providing salvation to all who believe and trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior.

The Bibile teaches that Jesus is the only way to salvation for the person trusting him in faith. Salvation is a work of the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Holy Trinity. Mankind is lost and dead in our sins. There is nothing we can do to gain salvation and forgivenss of sins on our own. If it were not for God's love for us, we would be lost forever. "But God demonstrates his own love for us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8)." Ephesisans 2:1 in the Bible states: "And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins. . ." In John 15:16, Jesus said that we were not the ones who chose him, but that he chose us and appointed us to bear fruit. So in order for a person to experience salvation, Jesus has to choose us first, and then the Holy Spirit of God comes calling. He convicts us of our sin and shows us that we are spiritually dead men and women walking and in need of a Savior.

Ephesians 2:8-9 states: "For by grace you have been saved, through faith, and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God; not of works, lest any man should boast." When the Holy Spirit begins to move in our lives, God gives us the faith to believe in Jesus Christ as the Son of God, to save us and forgive us of sin.

But for a person to receive salvation and forgiveness of sin, one must positively respond to the Holy Spirit and call upon the Lord Jesus. Romans 10:9-10 states "that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation."

When a person is saved, he or she becomes a child of God. John 1:12-13 is a beautiful scripture that describes the new state of the one who trusts Jesus as Lord: "But as many as received him, to them he gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in his name: who were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God."

You too can experience salvation and forgiveness by believing on Jesus and confessing him as Lord with your mouth.  When you commit your life to Jesus, you are born again, as Jesus talks about in the Gospel of John in the Bible.  You are born spiritually and all of your sins, past, present, and future, are forgiven. The Bible also says that when we believe on Jesus and recieve the free gift of salvation, the Holy Spirit of God comes to live in our lives. We are also made new in Christ. "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he (or she), is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold all things have become new."
